Autologous Stem Cell Treatment for MS

Stem cell 3Last week was my sixth autologous adipose stem cell treatment. Stem cells are cells that can self-renew to produce more stem cells. Adult stem cells act as a repair system for the body, replenishing adult tissues.

‘Autologous’ is a medical procedure in which stem cells are collected and later given back to the same person.

Embryonic Stem cells are earlier in the evolution, Dr. Balshi explained. If they were easily available and abundant, the results may be even more dramatic than the mesenchymal stem cells.

The problem is the difficulty of acquiring the cells and it would be virtually impossible to get your own.  Bone marrow is like fat in the quality of the stem cells but there is less in number and harder than mesenchymal stem cells to access. It’s been found that here are embryonic-like stem cells in the fat. Liposuction makes easy access to the mesenchymal stem cells.

Dr. Balshi said that we can continue with this treatment as many times as we’d like.  He’s seen some MS patients that have improved from being in a wheelchair then needing a walker, to walking with a cane then even on to walking independently. I sure hope that I’m one of them!

Incontinence has been my problem for years, Dr. Balshi agreed that this stem cell procedure has the potential to repair the damage on the complicated pathway of continence.  Even though the doctors have no control yet what the stem cells will find to repair, it seems they might go after the most inflamed areas.

My Greatest Improvement from Stem Cell Treatment #5

I’m disappointed to say I neglected to record Dr. Balshi’s answer to a very important question; Is this stem cell treatment the cause of my increased leg strength? “Yes”, he said, it sounds to him that it’s likely the stem cell treatment is healing my body.

My friend and I were trying to describe the feeling of our MS legs, it’s almost like they were invisible. I’d try to stand up and I didn’t seem to have the strength. It seems to be more than just not getting the messages from the brain to the legs,  it’s like my legs didn’t exist. About 2 months after my 5th stem cell treatment I realized that I could get up off my stretching machine!

At first it was to literally lift myself up by pushing down on the nightstand but now with a push up off the seat of the stretching machine like any healthy person would do, I can stand up~ of course holding on to the wall for balance.  It will be fun to see where I go from here!

This stem cell treatment gives me such hope for walking without a walker! If you want to contact Dr. Balshi you can call him 561-272-6000.  When you talk to him, make sure he knows you got his number from me!
