When I first heard the song “Happy” while flipping through the radio stations I immediately passed by it, rolling my eyes even, at the ridiculous peppiness and enthusiasm, Pharrell bringing happiness? Then it registered what I had just heard, “Because I’m happy…” I thought, there couldn’t possibly be a song so positive on a current radio station. So I turned back and listened to the lyrics.
Absolutely adorable! When I heard the lyrics “Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof”, I thought, that is exactly how it feels when you find joy and excitement for life. When my girls heard it, they immediately identified it as the ‘Despicable Me song’, which is where the song was debuted and grew in popularity.
My mom (Linda Grace Cox) had a somewhat similar first experience with the song, listening to it, but not very fond of it until she watched the music video. Then she became truly inspired by the lyrics, the dancing, the melody and the smiles shared through the music and the video.
My mom has since made it her routine to listen to ‘Happy’ while she jumps on her mini tramp most days. It helps her to continue to feel happy and motivated!
I learned some other interesting facts about Pharrell Williams and ‘Happy’ on Wikipedia that I thought you’d be interested in.

When I asked my mom what her favorite lines where, she basically sang me the song!
Mom has always said when happiness really becomes our truth, we can genuinely choose to be happy! And now she adds, “I know pain and sickness change things, it’s not as easy to clap and be happy. Yet, when we take self-care seriously, we can be just fine. When we keep our level’s high, we won’t let anything bring us down. Most days, I am choosing to clap my hands!”
My mom has always been so positive! It’s been fun to write about a little bit of happiness!
Thanks Mom for being you!
