My journey with my business Changing Paces has taken me to many places over the last 9 years, most rewarding, some profitable, others less than on both counts. I’ve learned a great deal of hard lessons along the way as I grew my business and developed my sense of personal and professional self-awareness.
The most pivotal lesson I’ve learned in the past two years is that I’m most productive when I’m working in collaboration with like-minded people as opposed to on my own; being self-employed can be a very isolating experience.
My mission since 2003 has been to provide life and business coaching to people living with chronic illness or disability. I provide my clients with short-cuts to the learning curves in life and business and solid strategies for moving towards “optimal health” while building automation, time and energy-saving systems into their work and life styles.
I also deliver corporate training to organizations on how to support people with disabilities in their workplaces and in the communities we serve. The personal rewards of the work I do can not even be described here in this space. Suffice it to say that my clients provide me with more joy and fulfillment then I could possibly provide them in a lifetime.
I have have been blessed to have a “knowing” in my soul that I’m doing exactly what God put me on this planet to do. As such, I will be eternally grateful that I’m doubly blessed because I know how fortunate I am to be tasked with being His messenger.
The following video was produced for me by SEDI, Social and Enterprise Development Innovations, as part of their national SEDI Awards Ceremony where they honored me with their Success in Self-Employment Award. AND it was presented to me by Robert Herjavec of The Dragons’ Den.
SEDI did an awesome job in this video capturing what I do and why I’m driven to do it. Hope you enjoy…
Loving what I do, I couldn’t understand why about 6 months ago I started to feel like things were incomplete. I realized that I missed my involvement in the MS community. You see I helped to found the local chapter of the MS Society in my area and served that board for over 14 years. I stepped down in 2002 in order to make the time I needed to start my business.
About 4 months ago I seriously considered reaching out to the current board about returning, but didn’t in the end because I felt that would be looking back instead of moving ahead. Fast forward to Dec 2011 when Linda Cox and I first connected through LinkedIn. She invited me to become an associate partner at MSrelief.com. In exchange for facilitating 1 or 2 support group meetings per month, I would be able to market my coaching services to the MSrelief.com community.
Sounded like a breeze to me so I joined Linda on her mission to bring joy to the global MS community. But after collaborating with her for about a month, I realized that working with Linda was very motivational for me, her enthusiasm for life is completely infectious!
By early Feb 2012, I’d already approached her wondering if she was open to taking on a full partner, someone to share the load, the passion and the expenses with. It was pure pleasure for me to learn that she was thrilled and delighted that I was interested in taking our partnership to the max.
So, Linda and I are now officially Co-Founders of MSrelief.com! I feel blessed and honored to be part of the founding of this awesome community. Linda and I are so excited about all the new developments that will be coming your way in the months to come, starting with ChooseJoyTV!
More to come on that later… <wink>
I hope that you and I will get a chance to connect directly very soon!
Till next time, take self-care & God bless.
